Man of Kent Cricket Club Bylaws
Revised April 2003

It is the mission of the Man of Kent Cricket Club to promote open and friendly participation in the noble game of cricket in the local area. Members of the club shall be considered those who fully comply with the by laws and text as laid out below.

1. All members are fully aware that they are participating in a potentially hazardous activity from which personal injury, accidental, or otherwise can and may occur. All such risks are known and understood by individual members, who agree to those conditions and fully accept all personal liability arising from playing cricket. Members will hold harmless, other members, opposing teams, and sponsors, for any injuries occurring during club activities.

2. Personal safety is of primary concern and all members should ensure that gloves and pads are worn at all times when batting and wicket keeping. All bats persons are strongly encouraged to wear safety helmets, and personal safety protectors. The removal of such personal items should be accomplished discretely and not in full view team members and spectators. Pads and helmets should have their straps returned to their original position for the convenience of other players. As well as the club equipment, please show respect for other peoples personal equipment.

3. Dues will be determined annually as to the agreed needs and goals of the club. Beginning with the 2003 season, the established dues amount will include a per person fee that will comprise, in total, our annual donation to Hoosac School in appreciation for the use of their field.

4. In order to be considered a full club member, every effort should be made to pay the annual dues as set forth at the beginning of each season by the club secretary. Only those who are members in good standing, having paid the annual dues in full, will be allowed to participate in inter-club games.

Members' guests are welcome at practices and may participate in games, at the discretion of the captain, if there are less than eleven club members available to play.

Prospective club members are welcome to participate in two (2) practices or games before payment of dues.

5. At the beginning of each season elections will take place to determine who will fulfill the administrative and senior playing roles for the coming year. These include, but are not limited to the following:

a. Manager
i. Set yearly calendar of events and goals in full consultation with members, and keep team informed of practice/game announcements, news and developments.
ii. Initiate and maintain regular communication with other officers regarding administrative and planning matters.
iii. Coordinate field maintenance and game necessities.
iv. Look after and transport club equipment; produce annual post-season inventory report of club equipment.
v. Organize and coordinate at-home game-day refreshments, annual review/awards dinner, AGM and other club functions.
vi. Solicit candidates for subsequent year's club officers and organize balloting process.

b. Secretary/Treasurer
i. Collect annual dues (cash) and prepare donation to Hoosac School.
ii. Produce annual financial statement for yearly review.
iii. Attend to necessary club correspondence.
iv. Record, prepare, and make fully available minutes from AGM.

c. Captain
i. Set practice schedule, drills, team selection and duties as set out in the MCC rules of the game. Be fully conversant with MCC rules of cricket. Maintain consistent communication with Vice-Captain with regard to practice schedule. Coordinate with opposing teams and umpires on match days.

d. Vice - Captain
i. Coordinate and assist, and substitute for the Captain when required in the fulfillment of duties. Be fully conversant with MCC rules of cricket.

6. In the interest of productive training and effective play, either the Captain or the Vice-Captain (or both) must be present at every practice or game. In their absence, they may designate a member to hold forth and must provide said designee with a practice plan.

7. All members should make every effort to participate, and help in the running of the club beyond just showing up to play. Preference shall be given to those who do participate regardless of skill level. This includes but is not limited to:
a. Transit, care and maintenance of the club equipment and facilities.
b. Field, pitch, and net preparation and general maintenance.
c. Providing and coordinating refreshments for visiting teams and other players.
d. Participation in the organization of the annual awards dinner.
e. Organized weekly practice sessions should be attended, and any other practice or field preparation as requested by teammates.
f. Weekend practice may consist of limited over, or limited side games, and/or practice drills as requested by the members. Focus should be given to those players who specifically request help, and all members are encouraged to do so.
g. At the Man of Kent, members should endeavor to conduct themselves in a reasonable manner, and see that their teammates and visitors do the same. This will also apply to any away games, or related visits to other grounds.
h. It should be remembered at all times that we are guests at Hoosac School and should treat the grounds, facilities, and staff with all due respect, and ensure that visitors, family and friends do the same.
i. Members should be willing to promulgate the game, and recruit potential new members, however reasonable action should be observed, so that while friends, visitors, and potential recruits are fully welcome to attend and even participate, this shall not be to the detriment of the other players.

8. Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action, which is seen to abuse this spirit, causes injury to the game itself.

It is incumbent on all players to show respect for your opponents, your own captain and teammates, the role of the umpires and the traditional values of the game.

In particular the umpires are the sole arbiters of fair and unfair play and can intervene at any time when the captain may be forced to take action. Umpire instructions should be implemented without criticism by word or action, or showing dissent, or generally behaving in a manner, which might bring the game into disrepute.
